New York Times Rube Goldberg Machine
A Rube Goldberg Machine to explain monetary policy for the New York Times
While at Midnight Commercial, I worked with a small team (Bailey Meadows - Project Manager Rachel Ciavarella - Designer, and myself) to concept, design and build a Rube Goldberg Machine to explain how the Federal Reserve attempts to limit inflation by raising interest rate.
The project involved designing mechanisms and interactions to match a vocal script for the video, sourcing materials and prototyping mechanisms, building the Machine, and running and troubleshooting the Machine during the video shoot. The whole project was completed over two weeks, with the Machine built over three days.
As engineer, I was responsible for designing mechanisms, vetting mechanism designs, physical fabrication, managing a build crew, and completing repairs during the video shoot.
